Goal Setting!

Goal Setting!

Yes, I used an exclamation point. Believe it or not, there was a time when I ended every sentence with them. These days, I save them for times when I’m really excited. Like when I remember that Star Wars: The Last Jedi is coming out in 2 weeks!

Goals bring out a fervor in me, mostly because they are opportunities to turn the page and create something new. The calendar moving from December to January seems to be a time when many would agree with me, perhaps not to the same degree of obsession, but I digress. New year, new you! (I’ll stop now.)

Because our firm invests time to develop goals each year, at a recent firm meeting we wanted to provide our employees with some meaningful information regarding the goal setting process. One of the biggest takeaways from the session didn’t focus on making the goals SMART, and it wasn’t regarding the details of setting a goal. Rather, it was all about the desire of achieving a goal. Having passion for a goal and/or wanting a goal to become reality is a considerable first step on your way to goal achievement.

If a goal is in your heart and if you’re truly excited about not only achieving it but also the journey to achievement, you’re more likely to see it through. Something to consider as you spend New Year’s Eve thinking about a great 2018.
